About the PPC

What is this craziness all about?

ppc.jpg (27001 bytes)The PPC is not-for-profit "organization" (we use this term loosely) of volunteers who organize and promote pub crawls, parties, and other fun events for ourselves and our friends such as our flagship event, The Chicago Fourth of July Party, and what has become another part of our storied tradition, The Twelve Bars of Christmas.  Most of our events center around Chicago's historic Lincoln Park neighborhood.  Incidentally, PPC used to stand for "Party Planning Committee", however we just simply call it "the PPC" these days.

History of the PPC: Although many of the details have been lost to history, the PPC started off in the early 1990's as just a group of friends looking to party and have a good time. The "founding fathers" were a bunch of guys that rented a flat in the infamous "Budweiser House" - that house across Waveland behind left field that has the roof painted red  with a Budweiser logo on it. Those parties were the stuff of legends. The group then relocated to the scenic Lincoln Park neighborhood at what became the PPC's most epicenter and famous party venue, 1834 N. Howe. "Howe Street Parties" became part of our collective heritage, including many legendary Halloween parties, the Toga Party, Elvis Party, and the first eight of our Fourth of July parties.

This also brought the PPC's focus into Lincoln Park, where our 12 Bars of Christmas pub crawl was born and has continued to this day. As all of the original founders have gotten married, moved to the suburbs, had kids, and generally dropped completely off of the social radar screen, today's PPC organizers represent mostly our third and fourth generation of governance. Sadly, in the Fall of 2001 we were finally forced to bid farewell to our beloved Howe St. venue as horrifically escalating rents and the fact many of us were starting to grow up and could finally afford buy our own cribs. Today, major outdoor PPC parties are hosted at Fuji's place at Fullerton & Sheffield (including the 2000-2004 Fourth of July parties) and indoors at various venues like J-Dog's Party Central Lakeview and The Iowa Boyz Orchard St. Party House.

Volunteer Opportunity: Do you like to help organize events or just enjoy being in the middle of it all? Here's your chance to help out your friends or make (a lot of) new ones! The PPC is looking for fun, energetic, individuals who would like to help us run upcoming events while having a great time themselves. You too can get your name in lights for the 2nd Annual PPC Spring Break pub crawl and 9th Annual 12 Bars of Christmas in 2005.  Organizers are also participants! The great success of past years' parties was due entirely to dedicated volunteers like the persons listed above, and also many others.  If you have an interest in getting more involved, please contact us at the e-mail address below. We make it all happen!

For more info or questions, we can be contacted  here ( Email the Social Chair ). You can also write us to be added, update your address, or be removed from our e-mail party mailing list.  We don't send out much spam (we all have day jobs) and you can stay in the loop on the latest events and receive useful things like future party invites.  Also, if you know of or are hosting a pub crawl, drop us a line and we can help spread the word. PPC regulars have been known to frequent other people's pub crawls because every now and then, it's nice not have to worry about running a crawl and just come out and enjoy yourself.  The PPC strives to provide the highest quality events at the lowest cost. To this end, we have developed and try our best to follow our own set of Pub Crawl Best Practices.  Copyright © 2005, The Chicago PPC. All rights reserved.
