Here's a TBOX classic - for the second year in a row posing with "The Wingman" Tracey and "The Intern" (2005 Rookie) Jo at the infamous "cheap trees" sign.

Hey friends,

Well we're heading into the home stretch for the 2005 Holidays! Hope you're having a blast. And no, you did not just cross the event horizon of a black hole and skip across time, due to a technical issue last week's email did not reach all the usual suspects however as always it can be found in its entirety in the Fridge Door Archives. Upcoming headliners include a pair of "Eve of the Eve" starting this Friday night (Eve of Christmas Eve) where my former roommie J-Dog is having a house party in Logan Square @ Dickens & Kedzie, and then the granddaddy of them all, Highsight's Eve of the Eve @ Union Station on Friday December 30. I plan on being at both! And just think, today is the shortest day of the year, the Winter Solstice so the days only get longer from here on out! That said, here's what's on the board this week:

Thursday, December 22: Bar Revu's Christmas Party Part 2 @ Melvin B's

EXTRA! EXTRA!
For those who missed our annual CHRISTMAS PARTY because of the snow  storm, we're having CHRISTMAS PARTY, PART 2
Thursday, December 22, 2005
7:30PM - ???

Melvin B's
1114 N. State St.
Chicago, IL

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Bar Revu is celebrating the holidays AGAIN since  the snow storm prevented many from attending the party at CARNIVALE.  This time, we're going low key, back to the old stomping ground where  Bar Revu used to have its Christmas Party, MELVIN B's. This will  certainly warm the hearts of long-time Bar Revu members, who some  will say this place is a holiday tradition. This second chance  Christmas party is dedicated to them.  I mean, "should old  acquaintance be forgot And never brought to mind?"

MELVIN B's is nestled between The Cedar Hotel and a Subway Sandwich  on State Street south of Division Street. MELVIN B's is known more  for it's outdoor patio in the warmer days for people watching. But  with the patio close during the winter, for obvious reasons, indoors  is cozy and intimate. For those who have never been to a Christmas party at MELVIN B's, you now have the chance to be part of an old  school holiday tradition. Come on out to celebrate the holiday season  and spread the joy!

See you all there!

Sunday, February 5: Super Bowl Sunday Kickball @ Jonquil Park

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME KICKBALL!!???

After a two-year hiatus, the craziness is back with "Lunatic Bowl VII" on Super Bowl Sunday once again back in Jonquil Park in Lincoln Park.

This classic Festa tradition has been in the can the last few years as he's been busy starting up his business but has always been a complete blast so we're resurrecting it for '06!

Here's the tradition - on Super Bowl Sunday folks would gather at Jonquil Park around 11am for friendly game of kickball in the snow and to have a few drinks. We use orange traffic cones as the bases (regular white bases don't show well in the snow) and there would be traditional "team meetings" between innings to take hits from a bottle of Mad Dog kept under the second base cone.

A group of 12-15 is ideal and it was a great warmup for all those Super Bowl parties later in the day. As you are playing kickball in the snow, little or no athletic ability is required or makes much of a difference.

For reference, here's Festa's old webpage on it:

http://www.itsalongstory.com/fun_archives/chicago_kickball.htm

In keeping with ritual and tradition the 2006 game will be held at the spiritual home of Festa Super Bowl Sunday Kickball, Jonquil Park at the intersection of Wrightwood, Sheffield & Lincoln. It's also close to public transportation and parking is usually quite ample for Lincoln Park as it's Sunday.

Note this is a Chicago Park District property so please don't show up with a half barrel, a case of beer or other conspicuous alcohol. Bottles in bags or pre-mixed drinks have done us well in the past.

Also I have all the equipement needed (cones and balls) in my garage already thanks to my participation in kickball league in Milwaukee (more pictures below for those with time to kill).

http://www.chicagofourth.com/Homestuff/Pictures/Kickballpix.htm

The only thing folks needed to bring was their favorite "warm you up drink" (like schnapps, hard cider, Mad Dog, etc).

I will try and get Festa himself to make a celebrity appearance. Bring it on!

Post-kickball actual Super Bowl (the other game that day) activities TBD but might throw something together depending upon interest or bolt onto someone else's event. Lots of time to figure that one out tho.

Party on,

--Fuji
