  • NPR Time Kill of the Week: Neolithic Noodles Unearthed in China. Proof positive that ramen did not evolve from Green Bay Packers fans. Seriously tho, Archeologists in northwest China have found the remains of a bowl of millet noodles prepared about 4,000 years ago. The find bolsters the theory that millet was one of the first domesticated plants.

  • Internet Time Kill of the Week: Latest Google Search. Obviously some programmer has a statement to make.

    1) Go to Google
    2) Type in "failure" (no quotation marks) in the search field

Okay, last week we had Chicago Hash House Harrier's beer refreshment stand @ the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, this week it's a roadtrip up 'Nort to Milwaukee for the Waukesha Hash House Harrier's run through the West Milwaukee neighborhood of Washington Heights @ Kickball Mecca Wick Field and O'Brien's which is probably the bar where I have cumulatively in my life consumed the most Jager bombs (impressive for a bar NOT in Chicago). Well the good times just keep on rollin'! Halloween 2005 is just around the corner (do you have your costume done yet?) and the Sox are in the World Series for the first time in 46 years! Wow!! Last weekend I was out of town visiting my good friends back in Milwaukee but now it's game on! Don't forget my favorite Halloween party of all is next Thursday @ Murphy's Bleachers with FIVE HOURS of open bar and benefiting Northside Housing & Supportive Services (formerly Lakeview Shelter). We have a special birthday to celebrate this coming TNC. That's right, TNC Panelist Amy K is one year older next week. Come on out as she gets a lot wiser and a little older.

What?  TNC = Thursday Night Club. It's a group gathering at a different bar/pub/lounge every two weeks to have some fun and have a few drinks as well.

Thursday, October 27: 9th Annual HALLOWEEN BASH for the Homeless @ Murphy's Bleachers to Benefit NorthSide Housing & Supportive Services

Editor's Note: My friend Kate is on the board of this service organization, and this event is a rare combination of a great event for a great cause which is why it's a PPC headline event. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27th - 9th Annual HALLOWEEN BASH for the Homeless!

Kick off your Halloween weekend early with a great Chicago party tradition!

NorthSide Housing & Supportive Services (formerly Lakeview Shelter), an agency serving Chicago-area homeless men, proudly presents its 9th Annual Halloween Bash on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27th at Murphy’s Bleachers (3655 N Sheffield) from 7pm - 12midnight.

Tickets are $30 in advance at http://www.northsidehousing.org/halloween.php or $35 at the door - and includes all you can EAT (burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries) & DRINK (beer on tap, wine & soda). The band "El Guapo", recently featured in Rolling Stone magazine, will play covers from the 80's, 90's, & today. Costume contest, raffle prizes and door prizes, too. Saturday, October 29: Bar1Events Michigan/Northwestern Tailgate & Halloween Costume Parties @ Duffy's

WXRT-FM 93.1's Lin Brehmer judges the finalists in the "slurp-o-rama" championship (7:30 p.m.), featuring Patrick Bertoletti of the International Federation of Competitive Eating. Bertoletti is known best for eating 19 dozen oysters at a competition in New Orleans. Live music by Lonnie Brooks, Coco Montoya and Johnny A. Includes oysters, jambalaya, chicken and catfish sandwiches, Goose Island beer and more.
$10. Partial proceeds benefit the Great Lakes Federation.
