Picture(s) of the Week!

As Always You Can Also Find Last Week's Fridge Door Pictures of the Week on the PPC Home Page - Click Here

Here's a pic from the MiC happy hour at Joe's last Friday night. Fortunately I was too killed to take any pics at the postparty at Sedgwick's afterwards. A few more pix from this event can be found here.

Weekly Feature(s):

  • NPR Time Kill of the Week: Pencil Company Sharpens Marketing Approach. The General Pencil Company has made its trademark product for nearly a century. Times were tough a few years back, but the business stayed afloat by marrying traditional manufacturing with modern marketing strategies.

  • NPR Time-Kill of the Week #2: J. Ralph: Ad Tune Master. Millions of people listen to J. Ralph's music, yet he's far from a household name. The 29-year-old musician's dreamy, hypnotic compositions have become a hit with advertisers, appearing in ads for Volkswagen, Nike and others.

Here's a picture of the PPC glitterati at the flagship event of the weekend, our friends Treva and Sebastian's wedding reception @ Hotel Allegro. Serious congrats guys!!! About 96 more pix from this wipeout can be found here.

Hey Friends,

Last weekend was wall-to-wall destruction starting off with MiC's happy hour @ Joe's (and even more lethal postparty @ Sedgwick's) Friday night, our great friends Treva & Sabby's wedding reception Saturday, and the last Sunday Cubs game @ Wrigley. This weekend we get a taste of Fall 2005 with a more low key start to the pre-Halloween season (start working on those costumes!). Here's what's on the board this week:

Friday, September 30: Mardi Gras Party Benefit for Andre Moss' sister @ Kelly's

Hello everyone,

If you can please stop out for this event. The proceeds benefit Andre's sister's family plus you can have a night of fun with friends while you are helping them out in their time of need. For full details please read the information below.

Thanks much, Chris Bohlin

Friends,
As you are well aware, people have now begun piecing their lives back together in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Thankfully, for most of us, our family and friends have been spared the problems now faced by people in the Louisiana and Mississippi region. Unfortunately, Andre Moss's family hasn't been as lucky. Andre's sister lives in New Orleans and lost her home and business due to the storm. She and her family are in dire need of any assistance we can provide.

Accordingly, we have decided to put together a Mardi Gras themed party with all the proceeds directly aiding the family. We will be asking for $25 dollars at the door, which will provide you with unlimited beer and well drinks from 8 until 12, as well as appetizers. Kelly's will be donating the space and their beer vendors have graciously donated two kegs of Miller Lite to the cause.

Additionally, we will be raffling off various items, with the proceeds also benefitting the family.

Also, if you have any services or items you would like to donate for the raffles, please call or email me at larry@zoomchicago.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Larry Berleman

"My sister's name is Shevonda Thomas. She is married and has three children, two boys and just had a girl one week after the hurricane hit. Her husband is in management with DHL, and she has a masters degree in nursing and owns a day care center in Jefferson Parrish just outside of New Orleans. They were able to get out of New Orleans bef! ore the hurricane hit, but they have nothing to return to. She has contacted the Red Cross and FEMA for assistance, but they were told they are not a priority because they got out of
New Orleans on their own. I am trying my best to give them money to get them the things that they need.

What ever anyone can do to help would be appreciated, and I will never forget those who do. When New Orleans gets on their feet, my sister would like to invite everyone to their house for a big party to say thank you."

Andre Moss.

Friday, October 7: John Corry's Beach Ball Happy Hour @ North Beach

BEACH BALL HAPPY HOUR

WHERE: NORTH BEACH(1551 N. SHEFFIELD) SHEFFIELD & WEED ST.
WHEN: FRIDAY OCTOBER 7TH 7:30 TO 10:30.
HOW MUCH $ 25.00
WHAT DO I GET: MILLER LITE, MGD, LEINENKUGEL, WELL DRINKS, WINE, POP, STOLI, DRINKS, Mai Tais and food buffet!

Hello Everyone,

Quickly reviewing the Chicago sports schedule for Friday, October 7th.  Cubs no game, Bulls no game, Black hawks, no game, White sox...keep playing like crap and no game, Bears no game.  My friend Bill who tried to pick up a girl at the last Happy Hour, NO GAME! :).  Since there are no conflicts with sports and not any big parties or street fests to speak of, I'll see you all there!  I think we chose a great place which will hold a ton of people.
North Beach has bowling, video games, volleyball etc.  And it holds up to 800 people.  The Tiki bars will be open along with the main bar.  Ryan See will be back to play some tunes for us which is always fun!  This is the first time we are having it at North Beach so it has been dubbed the "Beach Ball".

It is closer to the Gold Coast and Old town.  So those of you that think Lakeview is a suburb can dig deep for the six dollar cab ride and make it there!  I know it's not a swanky downtown bar full of really cool guys with expensive cars and pinky rings but once you adjust to the smell of us poor folk you might like it :)  As for the rest of us, Have you found someone you truly like or have you settled??  These happy hours are full of single people looking for true love.  There are also those who would truly love to be tied to the bed post for the weekend:)   Maybe you'll find both.

The charity this time is for two children's organizations which provide alternative activities and support in the fields of art and music to children who don't have the opportunities we had growing up.  GET THERE EARLY!!  See you then.

John Corry

Friday, October 7 & Saturday, October 8: Bar1Events Blue Moon Weekend @ McGee's

OCTOBER 10 - ROCK & REBUILD: A HURRICANE KATRINA BENEFIT CONCERT: Metro, in partnership with Chicago Tribune's On The Town, WGN-TV, Metromix, RedEye and The McCormick Tribune Foundation, is pleased to announce a benefit for victims of Hurricane Katrina. "Rock and Rebuild: A Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert" will take place at Metro on October 10, 2005.  The event lineup includes the Redwalls, The M's, Bumpus, Abstract Giants and more very special guests to be announced.  The Life During Wartime deejays will also spin their brand of eclectic up-tempo music in between sets.  In addition, there will also be merchandise donated from a host of Chicago record labels and artists, and a silent auction that will feature concert tickets, plane tickets, hotels stays, dinners-for-two, autographed memorabilia donated by musicians, and more.  Tickets to this all ages event are $20 and go on 9/24 at noon. All proceeds will benefit the Hurricane Katrina Relief Campaign of the McCormick Tribune Foundation to benefit non-profit agencies providing short and long-term aid to those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

Friday, October 14: Hurricane Relief Fundraiser / Party @ Trace

So the same question keeps popping up these days – when is the next Party???   Well, since the tragedy in the New Orleans area, seems only fitting we have a fund raiser…For anyone who has spent some time down on Bourbon Street and/or been on the receiving end of some Mardi Gras beads (you know who you are), let’s raise some $$$ to help get that town back on their feet.

Please put this in your calendar!

Friday, October 14th, 2005 (still wedding season so we are staying away from a Saturday night)

8:00pm – 11:00pm

$30.00 all you can drink ($5.00 per person donated to charity)

Trace – Upstairs Party Room

3714 N. Clark St.
773-477-3400

In addition to raising $$$, we hope this party gives you a chance to meet new people – so, be sure to invite someone new to the crowd….

We will also have a “Split the Pot” raffle so bring a little extra cash….Hopefully this date works for you!  John Corry promised to pick a different Friday in October for his monthly party J……

Hope to see you there!
