Picture(s) of the Week!

As Always You Can Also Find Last Week's Fridge Door Pictures of the Week on the PPC Home Page - Click Here

Here's a picture of the "grand prize" at last Friday's "Crapple" raffle at J&R Tap on Wellington. Everybody needs a giant inflatable octopus. More pictures from this outing can be found here.

Weekly Feature(s):

  • NPR Time-Kill of the Week #1: "NPR : Sklars on Sports: Calling All Rogue Kickballers"

  • NPR Time-Kill of the Week #2: The Butterfly and the Moth. A parable told two different ways. For some reason this intrigued me. As testimony to the inexplicable, irresistible power of love, commentator Geoffrey Grosshans offers the following romantic fable from the natural kingdom.

Fridge Door Bonus Pic!

Saturday blessed us with perfect weather for Summerfest which we were actually only at for a couple of hours as the Lakefront Brewery preparty (shown above on their deck overlooking the Milwaukee River), and the post-preparty at The Nomad on Brady Street encroached on the fest itself. The night ended of course at Flannery's on Cathedral Square. A few more pix from this outing can be found here.

Special thanks to the over 120 partiers that joined us for our 2nd annual Ten Innings at Wrigley Pub Crawl.

Mark you calendars for our 9th Annual 12 Bars of Christmas on Saturday, December 3, 2005!

Here's a picture of Heidi's crew at the PPC's Grant Park fireworks outing. Catostrophic crowds at the Santana show the previous evening thinned out the crowd to just the die-hards! A few more pix from that night can be found here.

Friday, July 8: Southern Culture on the Skids at Fitzgerald's

Get in touch with your inner “white trash” with a Southern Culture On The Skids

Tami and Shawn invite you to join them for a hootenanny this Friday night!

Southern Culture on the Skids (band description below) is performing at FitzGerald’s, 6615 Roosevelt Rd, in Berwyn Friday, July 8 at 10pm. Tickets at the door are $15.

(from allmusic.com) “True to their name, North Carolina's Southern Culture on the Skids offer an affectionate parody of local white-trash trailer-park culture, matching their skewed outlook with a wild, careening brand of rock & roll. SCOTS' music is a quintessentially Southern-fried amalgam of rockabilly, boogie, country, blues, swamp pop, and chitlin circuit R&B, plus a liberal dose of California surf guitar, a hint of punk attitude, and the occasional mariachi horns. Following an early incarnation as a relatively straightforward roots rock outfit, they morphed into a raucous, sleazy, tongue-in-cheek party band obsessed with sex and food; in fact, fried chicken became a crucial part of their live performances, whether it was used in eating contests or tossed into the audience.”

Sunday, July 10: LATE Ride in Grant Park

Mark your calendars for the LATE ride on July 10th!!  Close to 10,000 cyclists meet at Buckingham Fountain around midnight and bike through the night!

www.lateride.org

We had a fun crew participate last year as Course Marshalls!  (this, of course, meant nothing - riders just saw us in our "official" reflector vests and assumed we knew what was going on - after multiple beers, we thought we knew what was going on too!!!)  Kidding....as a Course Marshall, we get a discounted ride, the power to flag down and send naive cyclists in whatever direction we choose, and the ability to fix flats in mere seconds.

To raise additional funds for Friends of the Parks' citywide advocacy work, we have launched today an online auction in conjunction with Friends of the Parks' LATE Ride!  We will be adding more exciting travel packages in the next few days.  Please tell your friends about the auction!  We will also promote it heavily on www.lateride.org, at Packet Pick-Ups and more.

Here's how to find the auction:

Saturday: Noon-10pm, Sunday: Noon-9pm

Lincoln Ave. between Addison Ave. & Roscoe Ave

Benefits: The Festival Foundation

Careerbuilder.com and 93-WXRT present the 12th annual Rock Around the Block neighborhood fest. Every year, approximately 50,000 people gather at the event to enjoy great art, food, family activities, and music. This year, its sponsor, Careerbuilder.com, is set to present a check for $100,000 to the Illinois Military Family Relief Fund making it an event you don't want to miss.

Rock Around the Block is recognized as one of the best musical events in Chicago. It features three stages of all day entertainment, including regional favorites and some nationally renowned acts. Among these are the Spin Doctors, who have had hits such as "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes," and the Old 97's, one of the most popular bands of the alternative country movement in the 90's. Others to look forward to are Indigenous, Tributosaurus (as the Talking Heads), Mike & Joe, and Hairbangers Ball, who are sure to have you rockin' all night.

Visitors can also enjoy walking down the fest's four blocks, each lined with various arts and crafts merchants and a wide array of foods. This summer, the kids are truly in for a special treat with the WONKAmobile, a fully-interactive vehicle that dispenses candy samples and is equipped with cool gadgets and games to play with all for free.

Rock Around the Block is located over four blocks on Lincoln Avenue from Addison to Roscoe. Entrances are conveniently located just off the "Paulina" and "Addison" Brown Line stops.

Saturday, August 20: PPC's 7th Annual Post Air & Water Show Party at Party Central

Friends, Romans, Countrymen,

This Saturday, August 21st I will once again have my annual "Drinkstravaganza" and invite hundreds of friends over to trash my place and drink my booze, hosting the Sixth Annual Post Air & Water Show Party (PA&WS VI) in the Big Backyard at Party Central. Last year we had around 200+ people back there, the cops were called twice, and the kegs were killed in record time.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

WHAT: PPC's 7th Annual Post Air & Water Show Party - "PA&WS VII"

WHEN: Saturday August 20, 7:30pm - until the cops show up. This year we are starting earlier because this party has gotten so big it's no longer a matter of IF the cops will bust it up, but WHEN so if you want to party a lot, COME EARLY.

WHERE: 916-918 W. Fullerton (go around back on the 918 /left side of the building. Just East of the Fullerton Red/Brown Line Stop

WHY: To celebrate Summer in Chicago with old friends, meet new friends, kill off some funds we have leftover from the 13th Annual Chicago Fourth of July Party (which also kicked off at Party Central).

WHAT TO BRING: Yourself and some fun FRIENDS. Beer, wine, some mixed drinks, pop, water, and snacks will be provided. For the mixed drink crowd however, more bottles are always appreciated to help the cause.

Note, as I cannot fit 200 people into my 1000sqft condo, this party is WEATHER PERMITTING.

Hope to see you Saturday!
