Avon Walk for Breast Cancer: Chicago takes place the weekend of June 3-5, 2005.  The Avon Walk Chicago Weekend is so much more than a walk for breast cancer. It’s a breath of fresh air, a relief from the everyday, and one of the best possible ways to spend your days off.  The journey will start at historic Solider Field Stadium Green overlooking Lake Michigan. As the sun rises, join thousands of your fellow Walkers in a motivating and inspiring opening ceremony, celebrating your commitment to the breast cancer cause and preparing to start out on the experience of a lifetime.  Your first steps will take you North along Lake Michigan’s beautiful lake front path, a true treasure of Chicago, the sparkling water to your right and the towering skyline to your left. Along the way, our Rest Stops offer refreshment and replenishment with snacks, drinks, and the most supportive Crew members you’ll ever find! It’s likely you’ll also pass by your family and friends (and complete strangers) supporting you from our Cheering Stations.

Your home-away-from-home for Saturday night is our incredible Wellness Village, a complete campsite with everything you need for a fun and relaxing night away! We’ll supply hot showers, delicious food, cozy tents, even yoga and entertainment to top it off! It’s the perfect place to lay your weary head. No camping experience necessary -- we’ll make it easy as can be.

On Sunday, you’ll wake up energized and ready to lace up your tennis shoes! There will be a hot breakfast to get you going, and the city in the distance as your goal. Your second day will take you past the famous Lincoln Park Zoo as we head into Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood. You’ll even enjoy a spectacular architectural tour along the Chicago River before finishing triumphantly at Soldier Field!  Your friends and family will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at the Closing Ceremony, where you’ll celebrate your weekend and your enormous contribution to this important cause. On Friday, May 13, 2005 the Lake View Citizens’ Council (“LVCC”) will hold its annual Auction & Raffle in the Stadium Club of Wrigley Field.  The event features food, drinks, fantastic auction items and great fun in the Stadium Club.  VIP ticket holders will have a rare opportunity be go onto the field and take a few pictures, throw around a ball and even have some cocktails.

The LVCC is a non-profit civic organization serving the Lakeview community on the north side of Chicago, Illinois since 1952.  LVCC is a grassroots membership organization established to provide citizens in Lake View with the opportunity to work together for the common good of the Lake View community.   LVCC has played a key role in supporting property tax reforms, developing the Jarvis bird sanctuary, helping create the Neighborhood Protection Plan, coordinating the Thanksgiving food drive to assist the Lake View Food Pantry, spearheading "Operation Mitten" to provide winter outerwear for needy children, and sponsoring social events to showcase our businesses, provide fun for the neighborhood, and raise funds for our ongoing operations, including the Clark Street Fair and "A Night at Wrigley Field".  LVCC is a 501.c.3 non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed under the law.

THE KERRYMAN
A new Irish Bar, The Kerryman, is a first time U.S. venture from owners, who own bars in Ireland, U.K., and Spain. It just opened this week after many delays.

The space (formerly occupied by Tonic 661 and Doc's River North) has undergone a major makeover; owners recruited an Irish architectural firm to design the interior as well as the custom-made bars, and have added a third-level balcony. Look for a rich interior with plenty of mahogany, stone walls, leather booths and granite bar tops. They're planning an ambitious menu, with standards like fish and chips, shepherd's pie and mac 'n' cheese made with a trio of Irish cheese, but will also offer upscale fare like steaks and seafood.

For you history buffs, the bar's named in honor of legendary Kerryman St. Brendan (also known as Brendan the Navigator), a monk from County Kerry who may have set foot on American soil long before Christopher Columbus.

Beginning at O'Donovans, Pub Crawl participants will make their way through one of Chicago's hottest neighborhoods - Lincoln Square/North Center - and visit its many watering holes along the way. Socialize with some of your favorite YNPN Chicago pals while enjoying beverage specials, food, and the great outdoors between stops.

McGee's 16th Annual Crawfish Boil, also known as the "Headsucker's Ball", is right around the corner, and it is the biggest and best Cajun party around! Others may try to imitate it, but don't be fooled! McGee's Headsucker's Ball is Chicago's original crawfish boil, and no one else has Chip and Phil's secret recipes! On Saturday, May 14, we'll fly in more than 1000 pounds of fresh crawfish straight from the Bayou, and serve it up with our famous jambalaya, r ed beans & rice, gumbo and hurricanes all day long.
