Here's a pic of the MEETinCHICAGO crew out at Friday night happy hour at Trader Todd's. A few more pix of this longer than expected night can be found here.

Weekly Feature(s):

  • NPR Time-Kill of the Week: Rooting for the Home Team in Chicago. Chicago baseball fans remain ever hopeful and fiercely loyal to their hometown baseball fans, even though neither the Cubs nor the White Sox has won a World Series title since 1917. Ben Calhoun of Chicago Public Radio reports.

  • Internet Time-Kill of the Week: Negro Space Program.  Forwarded by and commentary from our friend Dante. "The link above came to my attention via ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY, and it's one of the funniest things I've seen in a while, hence my forwarding it your way. NOTE: the film is just over 10 min. long, and contains a bit of off-color language (pardon the pun), so if you're watching it at work, be careful!"

Fridge Door Bonus Pic!

PPC Co-Founder Marietta back in town last Sunday! Talk about the old school "A" list! A few more pix from that night here.

The Chicago HHH die-hards who braved the early start for the First Annual Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Run To Remember 5K on a very EARLY Saturday morning. The weather at least cooperated and a great time was had by all raising money for a good cause.  A few more pix here.

Hey Friends

Last weekend started off on a high note with my second appearance as an extra on ER and this time you could actually see me without using TIVO! I walked in the background in the playground basketball scene with Pratt at the very beginning of the episode, and then appeared shortly thereafter with my 1994 Honda in the traffic jam scene about five cars behind the SUV with Kovac and Sam. Now that it's finally getting warm we're starting to think about Beach Volleyball, and Chicago Summer Street Festival season, both of which should recommence in a couple of weeks. Can't wait!

Mark you calendars as the PPC's 2nd Annual Ten Innings at Wrigley Pub Crawl is coming up on Friday June 3. Anyone interested in joining us on the "dry run" to scout the route be at Blarney Stone (Sheffield/Newport/Clark) this coming Sunday at 6pm. Here's what's on the board this week:

OK PEOPLE...here is the deal.

Things at Bellys have been slow due to the weather and I need to do a jump start on getting people out to the happy hour this Thursday, May 12th.

Due to the fact that a crap load of people want to come over for the buffet concert party at my house when he is playing at Wrigley and my landlord said that due to the craziness, we are only allowed 30 people per day.....this is how it is going to work.

As most of you know, you can see the entire field from my sunporch and living room.

Anyone of you that come out to the happy hour at Bellys this Thursday will have an automatic IN. If you bring a bunch of your friends, I will allow 1 extra invite per 3 friends brought to Bellys for the buffett party at my house.

If you bring over 10 people with you, you can come over for the cubs/sox AND cubs/boston games as well.

Avon Walk for Breast Cancer: Chicago takes place the weekend of June 3-5, 2005.  The Avon Walk Chicago Weekend is so much more than a walk for breast cancer. It’s a breath of fresh air, a relief from the everyday, and one of the best possible ways to spend your days off.  The journey will start at historic Solider Field Stadium Green overlooking Lake Michigan. As the sun rises, join thousands of your fellow Walkers in a motivating and inspiring opening ceremony, celebrating your commitment to the breast cancer cause and preparing to start out on the experience of a lifetime.  Your first steps will take you North along Lake Michigan’s beautiful lake front path, a true treasure of Chicago, the sparkling water to your right and the towering skyline to your left. Along the way, our Rest Stops offer refreshment and replenishment with snacks, drinks, and the most supportive Crew members you’ll ever find! It’s likely you’ll also pass by your family and friends (and complete strangers) supporting you from our Cheering Stations.

Your home-away-from-home for Saturday night is our incredible Wellness Village, a complete campsite with everything you need for a fun and relaxing night away! We’ll supply hot showers, delicious food, cozy tents, even yoga and entertainment to top it off! It’s the perfect place to lay your weary head. No camping experience necessary -- we’ll make it easy as can be.

On Sunday, you’ll wake up energized and ready to lace up your tennis shoes! There will be a hot breakfast to get you going, and the city in the distance as your goal. Your second day will take you past the famous Lincoln Park Zoo as we head into Chicago’s historic Old Town neighborhood. You’ll even enjoy a spectacular architectural tour along the Chicago River before finishing triumphantly at Soldier Field!  Your friends and family will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at the Closing Ceremony, where you’ll celebrate your weekend and your enormous contribution to this important cause. It’s an awe-inspiring moment that words can’t explain.

is a SPECIAL PARTY NIGHT
Friday, May 13, 2005

THE KERRYMAN
661 N. Clark St.
Chicago, IL
7:30PM - ??

and for those who are interested in clubbing the night away, just one block away we're having an After Party at

VISION NIGHTCLUB

THE KERRYMAN
A new Irish Bar, The Kerryman, is a first time U.S. venture from owners, who own bars in Ireland, U.K., and Spain. It just opened this week after many delays.

The space (formerly occupied by Tonic 661 and Doc's River North) has undergone a major makeover; owners recruited an Irish architectural firm to design the interior as well as the custom-made bars, and have added a third-level balcony. Look for a rich interior with plenty of mahogany, stone walls, leather booths and granite bar tops. They're planning an ambitious menu, with standards like fish and chips, shepherd's pie and mac 'n' cheese made with a trio of Irish cheese, but will also offer upscale fare like steaks and seafood.

For you history buffs, the bar's named in honor of legendary Kerryman St. Brendan (also known as Brendan the Navigator), a monk from County Kerry who may have set foot on American soil long before Christopher Columbus.

VISION NIGHTCLUB
A special event, called the PROMOTER'S BALL. Don't worry what it means, except it will be a big event. MTV, Playboy TV, and a host of DJ's will be part of the festivities. For a better explanation:

http://www.247club.net/chi/promball.php

Vision Nightclub is a eight-level River North nightclub aims to create a global music scene. DJs spin house, trance, techno, progressive and hip hop to a club-going crowd of hundreds. Specialty mini-bars for bottled drink service dot the second and third floors, while a basement-level VIP room beckons. Shimmy down and park it on one of the mink swings, or sink into the leopard print overstuffed furniture. Craving some privacy? All ten of you can head to the bed and curtain yourselves off.

Make sure to sign up to be on the email list.

Saturday, June 4: 1st Annual Festa Hold 'em Poker Pub Crawl in Wrigleyville

We realized we couldn't wait a WHOLE YEAR between TBOX's to have another fun "neighborhood tour" event, and we finally came up with a little bit of a twist for your enjoyment... the FIRST ANNUAL "Festa Hold 'Em" Poker Pub Crawl.

Cost and How to Register -- in advance please!!!

The event costs just $10 to attend, and you'll get a really good beer special at each bar -- just scroll to the bottom to register. We are going to try to be limiting registration to somewhere in the 300-400 range, so we encourage you to register now to make sure you get your spot!! We accept Visa, MC, Discover, and AMEX.  There's no sales tax or postage, just one sawbuck!

How It Will Work...

The way it works is simple... if you've seen them play Texas Hold 'Em Poker on TV, you know how to play.  At the first bar, we will give everyone TWO CUSTOM FESTA STUFF PLAYING CARDS.  These are YOUR CARDS.   Then, because we'll have so many people, things will be a LITTLE different from the real thing.  At Bars 2, 3 and 4, we'll flop community cards, one per bar instead of 3 at a time.  At Bar 5, we will give everyone one more of THEIR OWN CARD.  We're doing this to make less people have the same hand.  Then, at Bar 6, we will turn the final community card, AKA "The River", and we'll then award prizes for the best hands.

We will have methods in place to settle tiebreakers, and also, to make sure you keep your own cards and don't trade them with other people :)

Prizes and the specific procedures will be announced shortly.

Drink Specials - We will have a beer special at every bar for participants in the crawl.  We will also have a special treat for everyone as they're traversing the back of the left field bleachers between Sheffield and Waveland!

Schedule - The tentative schedule is as follows and will be formalized shortly! Check-In and getting your cards will begin @ 2:30 @ John Barleycorn...

1) John Barleycorn  3-4
2) Cubby Bear 4-5
3) Casey Moran's 5-6
4) Yak-Zie's 6-7
5) Murphy's Bleacher's 7-8
6) Hi-Top 8-9

So, basically, you will be doing a lap around Wrigley Field -- you know, like the Cubs are supposed to do, and prevent the other team from doing!!

Notes...

It's half way between TBOX9 and TBOX10! It's half the price, half the distance, half the size, and we PROMISE it will be HALF THE FUN of TBOX!! :) (which is still pretty good, right?)

Questions...  contact us @ info@festastuff.com or call our office @ 773-755-FESTA!

Open Studio provides a wonderful, nonjudgmental atmosphere for creative arts and writing. Activities include:
1. Classes for the general public (adults and kids),
2. Extensive community outreach programming, including an award-winning after-school program for teens in low income families and teens in recovery from substance abuse,
3. Gallery shows featuring voices usually never seen in galleries, and exhibits dealing with pressing social issues.
Open Studio has been recognized by the Illinois Arts Council, the Evanston Community Foundation, Target Corporation, and most recently, the Young Leaders Fund of the Chicago Community Trust. Their after-school program is featured in the current issue of the Journal of the American Art Therapy Association.
