Hey friends,

Thanks to the die-hards who came out for the 11th Annual Masters Charity Pub Crawl last weekend and mad props to our teammates Jessica and Andy who helped the PPC contingent eagle every hole for the first time ever! This weekend we see the weather warm up a bit with another one of John Corry's happy hours on Friday at Barleycorn Wrigleyville.

BTW - I don't often call these out in the body text, but this week's NPR Time Kill of the Week is an audio essay about America from former Secretary of State Colin Powell which absolutely rocks, so if you have a free moment, I highly recommend you check it out at  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4583249

Thursday, April 14: Chicago Bar Revu Spring Fling at The Motel Bar

The Bar Revu celebrates SPRING FLING

THURSDAY, APRIL 14, 2005

THE MOTEL BAR - 600 W. Chicago Ave (Chicago Ave and Larrabee St.), Chicago, IL

7:30 PM - ???

The weather is warming up and it's time for a Spring Fling or a fling of some sort. Where else is appropriate for that fling than at a motel, umm that is, THE MOTEL BAR? Well, a faux hotel bar.

The Motel Bar is a hot new bar, (housed under the same giant roof as the new condos and Japonais Restaurant.) It's cool and kind of retro with lots of comfort with their overstuffed sofas and cushy ottomans.

The Motel Bar specialize in the classic cocktails (we're talking old school) such as the gimlet, Grasshopper, Sidecar, Pink Lady, Harvey Wallbanger, Manhattan or Rob Roy, as well as a good menu of room service-style food.

The Motel Bar is small and gets crowded quickly, so be there before 9:00 PM or a line will form to get in. Currently, it's one of the hottest bars in town, so check in at The Motel Bar, before they're all booked up.

Friday, April 15: John Corry's Happy Hour at Barleycorn Wrigleyville

Hello everyone,

A change of plans for the usual Happy Hour…  As you all know I always involve a charity with these happy hours.  My friend Pierre is co hosting a party for a great charity called The Goodie Foundation.  I have decided to just have all of us join his party for this month.  Your donations will be used to help in the fight against skin cancer.  As we are approaching summer we all need to be reminded of this danger.  I know what you’re thinking.  But John, how do I drink in the playpen or on the beach AND prevent skin cancer?  One way is to use protection.  However, it would look a little silly to be tanned all over except for a white Weiner?  Another more effective method of skin cancer prevention is to have sex with someone until they pass out on top of you.  That’s ZERO UV’s and much more fun!  You can even incorporate rubbing lotion on each other!  Which brings new meaning to that line from Silence of the Lamb’s, “It will put the lotion on or it get’s the hose”  Speaking of tanned, I just got back from a cruise.  The entire boat was filled with tanned 17 year olds!  My god, I went to a large high school and we had maybe 10 girls who looked like that.   I don’t know what the FDA allows in food these days but whatever it is combined with the clothes they wear….I felt like a very bad man!  By the way, I’m hoping this e-mail gets through to everyone. The state penitentiary doesn’t have the best web provider…

So here is the deal.  Read below and click on the areas you need to.  Otherwise just show up but its $ 30 at the door.  This is a fun party with a similar crowd to our happy hour group.  I’ll be sending out an e-mail soon about a PUB CRAWL so stay tuned…  Get there early!!!

Donate Extra Frequent Flyer Miles To Help Our Troops Come Home: Operation Hero Miles

From my co-worker Bev. If you have some extra frequent flyer miles, or are current or former road warrior like me and have frequent flyer accounts at every major airline and have some miles lying around you'll probably never use at airlines you hardly fly, this is a great use for them rather then forfeiting them over time. More info available at http://www.heromiles.org/

~~

In September 2003, the Pentagon started giving soldiers stationed in Iraq two-week leaves in the largest R & R program since the Vietnam War. Soldiers on R & R or Emergency Leave are flown by the military to Germany or three airports in the United States, Baltimore/Washington, (BWI), Dallas/FortWorth, (DFW), or Atlanta, (ATL ) for free.

The soldiers have been responsible for flights the rest of the way in the U.S. to their destinations, until Congress provided funding for this purpose on November 3, 2003. However, this funding is not yet available and may not be sufficient for all the troops or troops on "Emergency Leave".

More than 470 soldiers a day are arriving in the U.S.

Many soldiers on R&R leave must purchase high-priced last minute airfares to connect to their hometowns once their military flights land at the airports in Baltimore, Dallas or Atlanta. Soldiers on "Emergency Leave" must still pay the full cost of their domestic travel when they are rushed home for the family death, birth, illness or other emergency. The military does not pay the cost of their travel in the United States, so your frequent flyer miles are a huge help.

Americans have donated their unused frequent flyer miles to the Department of Defense to help troops travel home and spend quality time with their loved ones, without worrying about how much it will cost.

The lowdown on the PPC Fridge Door...

Okay folks, we get lots of requests to post various things such as notice of upcoming parties and other events, as well as people who are looking to buy/sell/rent stuff like condos, cars, etc. Rather than put them all on a large spam email, we've decided to conserve electrons for use in more important stuff (saving up for the bar tab) and keep all this good stuff on this page, kind of like how you post notices and other stuff on your fridge door at home.

The top portion contains a detailed index of all the stuff on the Refrigerator Door, and clicking on the bookmark or hyperlink will take you to all the gory detail. Events will remain on the Fridge door until the event date passes, and other notices will remain for up to one month or so after first posting. To get something posted, or if you have other questions about the PPC Fridge, please send it to The PPC Social Chair ( Email the Social Chair ) at the PPC or you can check out the Fridge Door FAQ's Frequently Asked Questions), below. And yes, if the PPC Virtual Refrigerator were a real fridge, it would be a kegerator. More info on the PPC itself can be found here.

And if you have way too much free time on your hands, feel free to browse previous weekly issues of the PPC's Fridge Door. Check out our archives here. Previous Picture of the Week features are included too.
