10th Annual Chicago Fourth of July Party Was Another Smashing Success!
The next day, folks scraped themselved out of bed to join us for another great, if albeit somewhat warm day at the BBQ/Picnic at Fuji's. Despite random acts of water balloon terrorism (including the tossing of an entire cooler of ice water on a certain Mini-Mahu) folks had a great time and were really fired up for the start of the scavenger hunt/pub crawl. Special thanks to Treva and Frank for helping with the shopping runs for the BBQ and of course Fuji for once again allowing us to trash his place by having the party there. The pub crawl itself was a blast too, this year we added several new bars to our route, including Halligan Bar (formerly Jerry's), Four Farthings, Gamekeepers, and our new closer, the Beaumont (it's not just for 21 year old kids fresh out of school anymore). The old standbys like Lincoln Station, Parkway Tavern and Kelsey's/Kendalls did well by us too. Needless to say, by the end of the evening everyone was ready for our new "last bar", known as "bed/couch/floor". Special thanks to Sebastian, Tom, and Sara for helping get the bar specials and the questions lined up for the pub crawl and Susan for helping us get the shirts. They were cool. And thanks too to Heather for yet another awesome t-shirt design! This year we also revieved the survivors brunch tradition and a bit over a dozen hardy souls made it back over to Fuji's for some burgers, grilled chicken, and help kill the last keg. The Hippity Hop Marietta brought was a surprise hit with the rather hungover crew. Special thanks to Frank, the undisputed GrilleMaster for cooking for the weary masses. We also had a good turnout at the fireworks at Grant Park on Tuesday night were usual suspects showed up to help consume copious quantities of the PPC Magic 2-Liter "pop". Despite a cloudy/rainy start to the day, the skies cleared awesomely for the night's show. Special thanks to Kara for helping with the beverages and setting up our area early so we got a great spot. Beach Volleyball on Wednesday was also a blast as most of the crew was recovered enough from the weekend to engage in physical activiites slightly more strenuous than walking and Mother Nature handed us yet another exceptional day. And the post-party outing to the Union was also a blast. Thanks to Barnum for helping us get specials there. The same could be said about the following Saturday's outing to Grant Park to see the Go-Go's concert. Yet another PPC Magic 2-Liter event followed up by a some great bar hopping afterwards. Specific Events - What An Awesome Holiday!

Fri 6/29 (Evening) Chartered Booze Cruise on Lake Michigan (boat leaves
approx. 7:30pm)

| This year's event will be a little different
than past years as the Fourth of July (observed) is on a Wednesday, so
Monday, July 2 has
been officially declared a Day of Rest and Hangover Recovery, with the festivities
recommencing on Tuesday, July 3 for the Grant Park Fireworks. Location of the main event
will again be in the heart of scenic Lincoln Park across from DePaul University,
continuing our new tradition (to learn more about the history
of this party, click here). All else remains essentially
unchanged (why mess with a good thing?). |
| The Current Lineup of Events: (Mark your calendars!) Friday, June 29, 2001: Yacht Cruise on Lake Michigan, we've chartered our own party boat, the Free Spirit to watch the sun set over Chicago's spectacular skyline! The price of the cruise includes the traditional three hours of Premium Open Bar. This year we've also charted buses (included in the event price) from the harbor to the post party at the Hangge Uppe (corner of State & Elm) to help get you to the party sooner. Drink and dance to tons of 70's and 80's music! Why the Hangge Uppe? The original party planners of this event were former bouncers there, who now claim real jobs in respectable financial institutions. Click here for directions and latest cruise info! Saturday, June 30: Morning: THIS IS THE MAIN EVENT - BBQ Cookout in Lincoln Park, followed by the also-traditional Scavenger Hunt & Pub Crawl. This year's theme is "2001: A Lincoln Park Odyssey" There will be eight bars involved, LOTS OF BEVERAGES, our signature Mardi Gras Beads, and a trophy for the Winning team. This will be an organized event and have all sorts of goodies involved. You dont want to miss this event (TRUST US)! Click here for detailed info and directions. Sunday, July 1: The Official Day of Rest and Hangover Recovery Brunch. This event will be for whoever survives the Scavenger Hunt and/or manages to find the way back home. Everyone who attends the BBQ/ Pub Crawl is welcomed back to the Party Central Lincoln Park to regale fellow pub crawlers with tales of glory, have a few drinks (if you still can drink) and a brunch of leftovers (such that remain - the event is free, so we make no promises). Tuesday, July 3: Evening: Come join us in Grant Park for the best fireworks show in the Midwest, synchronized to the CSO in the Petrillo Music Shell! The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is one of the premier orchestras in the WORLD. Some of us who have the day off will arrive (very) early and reserve a choice location in the heart of the park. Like our Sunday volleyball outings, look for the big yellow smiley face flag. We'll be across from the Petrillo Band Shell which is at the intersection of Jackson & Columbus. BYOB - Please note, alcoholic beverages are technically prohibited in Chicago Park District facilities so use of good judgement (be discreet) is encouraged. Wednesday, July 4: Afternoonoon: Join the gang for a special midweek edition of beach volleyball at North Ave. Beach. Look for the PPC gang and our yellow "smiley face" flag. After this we bid our fond farewells and head our separate ways, taking back home with us memories of good friends and good times... until next year! |
