BOAT CRUISE INFO: PRINT & BRING WITH YOU!!

DIRECTIONS TO BOAT CRUISE & POST PARTY - 6/29/02; 7:45PM

There is the Taste of Chicago going in in Grant Park, so we STRONGLY SUGGEST you take the CTA Green or Red Line south and get off at Roosevelt Road (1200 South). Then walk east through the Museum Campus to the Field Museum. The harbor is located south and east of the museum. Walk along to harbor to berth J24, which is on the west side of the harbor by the Harbor Master Building B just look for a group of people.

If you are driving, be prepared for a lot of traffic. Factor in a huge amount of contingency time. Use Michigan Avenue or Clark Street and head south (Columbus Drive will be closed downtown due to the Taste Of Chicago). Then, be sure to take Roosevelt Road, (1200 south) east bound. Do not try to go any further south or you won't get to the harbor. This is important- turn south on Columbus Drive, it merges into South Lake Shore Drive. Be sure to keep to the right and get off at the very next exit which is 18th (aka East Waldron Drive). Head east and park in the lot to the right of the Harbor Master building. If you are coming by cab, be sure that the driver follows the instructions above, most cab drivers don’t go to that harbor and will get lost.

The yacht's berth number is J24 and located on the West side of the harbor, just north of the Harbor Master building. A member of the PPC will be by the boat. We will be leaving from Burnham Harbor at 7:45 p.m. You can start boarding at 7:20 p.m. Be on time, the boat will not extend the cruise-time if we leave late. Trust me, you don't want to be the one that makes 100 other people leave late for their cruise. If you're very late you could be left behind because we need to be fair to the rest of the people who paid for this. We definitely don't want this to happen. Please plan on arriving early and take into account that there will be over a million people in the downtown area for the Taste of Chicago

Alternately, if you can’t get to the harbor by 18th Street due to the traffic for concert at Solider Field, the parking attendant at the harbor had another suggestion. Continue on South Lake Shore Drive to 31st Street. Make a left to the lakefront and head back north, however, do not get back on Lake Shore Drive. Instead, stay right and go under the tunnel at McCormick Place and on north to the harbor. This is the route to take if you are coming from the south B that way you should miss some of the concert folk.

Dress: Whatever, but the owners insist that you wear soft-soled shoes. We suggest you may want to bring a jacket or sweater. (It can get cool on the lake at night.) Of course the drinks can help keep you warm too.

hanggeuppe.jpg (41513 bytes)New this year we've rented out a three of buses to take folks to the post-cruise party. This is included in the cost of the event. The post-cruise party will be at the Hangge Uppe, which is located at 14 W. Elm St. which is between State and Dearborn. We have drink specials setup at the bar which include $2 Miller/Miller Lite Pints, $1.50 shots, and $4 Margaritas. We will issue wristbands which will identify you as part of our group for the specials. Also new this year for those who can't make it on the boat we'll sell some wristbands for $5 for the specials and donate the proceeds of that to charity. Lastly this should be a no brainer, but BRING YOUR ID AS YOU WILL NOT BE LET INTO THE HANGGE UPPE WITHOUT IT. That's their policy.

Best way to reach us last-minute is via our cell phones. It’s gonna be another great cruise! See you then!
