This year's theme was "Made in the USA" New for 2002! Click Here for the PowerPoint Slide Show about the Party *Note: For 2002 we are departing from our practice of using Roman Numerals to designate the annual event (like the Super Bowl does) this year and designating this as Party "11" in memory of the events of September 11, 2001.
Our Summer Flagship Event, The 11th Annual Chicago Fourth of July Party has come and gone! This year's theme was: THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME OUT FOR AND MADE THIS YEAR'S EVENT OUR MOST SUCCESSFUL EVER! WE SOLD OUT THE CUBS/SOX GAME, THE BOAT CRUISE, FILLED PARTY CENTRAL TO CAPACITY FOR THE BBQ PICNIC AND SHOCKED THE BARS WITH HOW MANY PEOPLE WE BROUGHT ON THE SCAVENGER HUNT PUB CRAWL! New! On Saturday, June 29, 2002 we were joined by 120 fun party people on the Free Spirit - filled to capacity and ready to rumble! The cruise started out with a leisurely southward leg down past Meigs Field and McCormick Place as folks were introduced and the game of the night was begun. Everyone was given the name of character or celebrity and the trick was to find one's other half by guessing who you were. This broke the ice on a wonderful mixer and as the drinks started flowing, the party grew to a loud roar. Afterwards the boat swung north as the haze burned off revealing a spectacular view of Chicago's majestic skyline, headed for Navy Pier where we had a great view of the Saturday evening fireworks. After the show we returned to the harbor and jumped onto our fleet of three school buses for a quick trip down to the Hangge Uppe where the second party immediately began (I've never seen three school buses unload so quickly!). The drink specials (especially the $1.50 shots) quickly took their toll on the gang, and despite a few minor party-related mishaps, a great time was had by all and we arrived safely home at some single-digit AM hour to rest up for the main event next week, the BBQ Picnic Party & Scavenger Hunt Pub Crawl! | This year's event will be a little different
than past years as the Fourth of July (observed) is on a Thursday, so
Sunday, June 30 has
been officially declared a Day of Rest and Hangover Recovery, with the festivities
recommencing on Tuesday, July 3 for the Grant Park Fireworks. Location of the main event
will again be in the heart of scenic Lincoln Park across from DePaul University,
continuing our new tradition (to learn more about the history
of this party, click here). All else remains essentially
unchanged (why mess with a good thing?). And feel free to check out pictures

| The Current Lineup of Events: (Mark your calendars!) Saturday, June 29 2002: Afternoon Cubs vs. Sox Inter-League game at Comisky! Event Sold Out. We've secured a block of tickets to the classic North Side - South Side rivalry - Cubbies vs. Sox!!! Game time starts at 12:15pm and the group will head to a local tavern afterwards to round out the day. This event is currently sold out already, but we're trying to secure additional tickets. Stay tuned for updates. Saturday, June 29, 2002: Evening Yacht Cruise on Lake Michigan, we've chartered our own party boat, the Free Spirit to watch the sun set over Chicago's spectacular skyline! The price of the cruise includes the traditional three hours of Premium Open Bar. But unlike other booze cruises, when the boat docks, the party is not nearly over! This year we've also charted buses (included in the event price) from the harbor to the post party at the Hangge Uppe (corner of State & Elm) to help get you to the party sooner. Drink and dance to tons of 70's and 80's music! Why the Hangge Uppe? The original party planners of this event were former bouncers there, who now claim “real” jobs in respectable financial institutions. Please note that this year's cruise is on a Saturday night (make it easier to get to) and will run later (7:45-10:45pm instead of the usual 7:30-10:30 so we can catch the Navy Pier fireworks while we're out on the lake) Click here for directions and latest cruise info! Wednesday, July 3: Evening: Come join us in Grant Park for the best fireworks show in the Midwest, synchronized to the CSO in the Petrillo Music Shell! The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is one of the premier orchestras in the WORLD. Some of us who have the day off will arrive (very) early and reserve a choice location in the heart of the park. Like our Sunday volleyball outings, look for the big yellow smiley face flag. We'll be across from the Petrillo Band Shell which is at the intersection of Jackson & Columbus. BYOB - Please note, alcoholic beverages are technically prohibited in Chicago Park District facilities so use of good judgment (be discreet) is encouraged. Thursday, July 4: Afternoon: Join the gang for a special midweek edition of beach volleyball at North Ave. Beach. Look for the PPC gang and our yellow "smiley face" flag. Saturday, July 6: Afternoon/Evening: THIS IS THE MAIN EVENT - BBQ Cookout in Lincoln Park, followed by the also-traditional Scavenger Hunt & Pub Crawl. This year's theme will be "Made in the USA". There will be eight bars involved, LOTS OF BEVERAGES, our signature Mardi Gras Beads, and a trophy for the Winning team. This will be an organized event and have all sorts of goodies involved. Sunday, July 7: Morning The Official Day of Rest and Hangover Recovery Brunch. This event will be for whoever survives the Scavenger Hunt and/or manages to find the way back home. Everyone who attends the BBQ/ Pub Crawl is welcomed back to the Party Central Lincoln Park to regale fellow pub crawlers with tales of glory, have a few drinks (if you still can drink) and a brunch of leftovers (such that remain - the event is free, so we make no promises). After this we bid our fond farewells and head our separate ways, taking back home with us memories of good friends and good times... until next year! |
