The Tradition Continues! What started out in December of 1997 as just a handful of friends joking around that we should go a 12-Bar tear to kill time on a Friday night in Lincoln Park has mushroomed into one of the largest free pub crawls in the City of Chicago
with the event attracting over 327 participants in 2002!

Although there have been evolutionary changes along the way, like moving the event onto Saturday night (so more folks could attend), free wristbands, and of course, pre-negotiated drink specials, our core traditions remain the same... good friends, good drinks, good times, and even some free Santa Hats for the early birds.

And even though this event has grown to one of the largest private pub crawls in the city, to this day we don't collect one penny from our friends for this event, as we do not wish to make your charitable giving decision for you by collecting on someone else's behalf. We think it's great that others do (so please be generous to the charity of your choice), but that's just not what we're all about. We're here to party!

See you all there!

New stuff for 2003 will include:

  • FLIGHTING: This thing is getting a bit too big to all be in the same bar at the same time, so plan on moving it along in smaller groups for better service at the bars (get your drinks faster!). Specials are being negotiated with the bars across longer windows to accommodate this.

  • TWO-BAR HALFTIME PARTY AT KELSEY'S AND KENDALL'S: To properly celebrate halftime of the crawl (and carb up at Lincoln Ave Pizza by the Slice, if necessary) we will be visiting Kelsey's and Kendall's simultaneously and have reserved an extra long window on the schedule for the halftime party. These bars are right next door to each other and people will be encouraged to move freely between them.

  • TWO-BAR ENDING PARTY AT THE UNION TAVERN AND CRUSH: This year we'll be ending at two places instead of one because the crawl has become too large for most bars in Lincoln Park so we're doing both. Crush will be more for listening to music and/or dancing and The Union will be more for those who just want to hang out - freedom of choice and as these bars are across the street from each other, people are encouraged to circulate freely between them.

  • YOU TOO CAN BE IN THE 2003 "CRAWL OF FAME" LIST: For those who remember last year's event, we introduced the foil stars to stick to people's nametags as a kind of "bogey count" to show how many bars you were at. That went so well that we've added the "Crawl of Fame List" which will be posted on the website showing the names of everyone who completed the entire 12 bar route. One star per bar and you don't need to drink anything to earn a star, just be at the bar itself.

In the meantime, here's some goodies from last year's 12 Bars of Christmas
