The PPC has selected the bars and a route for the Fifth annual Twelve Bars of Christmas (yes, it's a compromise between the Thirty Bars of Ramadan and the Eight Bars of Hanukkah). What started off as just a handful of close friends on an informal tour of approximately a dozen local taverns has grown into a 140+ person affair complete with wristbands and pre-negotiated specials, but the core traditions remain the same... good friends, good drinks, good times, and even some free Santa Hats for the early birds.

Due to our ever-decreasing attention spans, once again, this year we have a completely new route. Unlike the southbound march down Halsted and Lincoln we did last year, this year it's essentially the reverse of the 12 Bars 2000, as we march North from Armitage, starting at the River Shannon (where my first 12 Bars of Christmas started from many years ago - sniff...) and Lincoln and ending up at Diversey and Halsted.  As our dearly departed former ending bar, Bamboo Bernie's alas has seen its own "Last Call", we'll be ending at Coyle's Tippling House (formerly know as Sidelines) where we'll rock the night away with two buck Christmas shots and the sounds of East Village Project..

As usual, there will be free Santa hats on a first come, first serve basis, so show up early unless you want to be reduced to pleading for a hat.... (or if you have one from a previous year - bring it!  We will also be handing out wristbands also to identify you as part of our group.

Wow talk about the old school crew, left to right - Heather our artist, Fuji, Dave, Tanya, Uncle Pauli and J-Hipo. This was the first Christmas after 9-11 and boy could we all use a drink! And back in the days when we still used film for cameras! I think there are more pictures of the Loch Ness monster than from this event but for what it's worth, they're here.
